Economic Vitality

The Economic Vitality Committee is made up of business owners, entrepreneurial-minded community members, and business support professionals who are directly impacted by the growth and direction of Junction City. Their efforts are guided by a shared understanding of current and emerging market trends. The committee focuses on recruiting compatible new businesses, strengthening the competitiveness of existing merchants and service providers, and diversifying the local economic base. They also work to creatively transform unused or underutilized spaces into economically productive properties. Together, the Economic Vitality and Design Committees collaborate to find solutions for historic commercial buildings, ensuring their continued occupancy, maintenance, and preservation.

Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC)

In October of 2025 it was announced that Junction City Main Street was selected for the EPA’s Recreation Economy for Rural Communities Program!
This national initiative will bring experts to our community to help us create a roadmap that connects Downtown Junction City with the “Best Backyard in Kansas.” Over the next year, we’ll meet with the steering committee, host a community workshop and drive conversation to shape the future of recreation, economic vitality, and quality of life for Junction City/Geary County.
Stay tuned for all the wonderful possibilities that will follow after the RERC Program is completed.
