Located at 131 W. 7th Street inside the Munson Education Wing of the C.L. Hoover Opera House, the Junction City Arts Council has been enriching our community through the arts since 1974. Their mission is simple but impactful: to create inclusive opportunities for artists of all ages and backgrounds to learn, grow, and share their creativity.
This month’s HYPE Team meetup gave us the opportunity to experience that mission firsthand.
Executive Director Sherry Freeward welcomed our group with a behind-the-scenes preview of the Junction City Arts Council’s fully reserved 2026 Summer Art Camp. Rather than simply hearing about the program, we rolled up our sleeves and became artists ourselves, creating watercolor sea urchins using the same techniques campers will learn this summer. Even more special, our finished artwork will serve as the example pieces for the young artists participating in camp.
While many people know the Arts Council for its youth programming, creativity doesn’t stop after childhood. Throughout the year, the organization offers adult art classes featuring a variety of artistic mediums, providing opportunities for beginners and experienced artists alike to explore new skills and connect with fellow creatives.
They’re also continuing to grow opportunities for the community. On July 25th, 2026, at 4 PM, the Arts Council will host an interest meeting at their office, for anyone interested in forming a local photography club. Members will help choose photography subjects and locations while receiving support and resources from the Arts Council to grow the club together.
Whether you’re looking to introduce your child to the arts, rediscover your own creativity, or connect with fellow artists in the community, the Junction City Arts Council has something to offer.
Thank you to Sherry Freeward and the Junction City Arts Council for hosting our HYPE Team and for continuing to make the arts an important part of downtown Junction City. We encourage everyone to visit their website and explore the many classes, camps, exhibitions, and events they offer throughout the year.
Fun fact: The Arts’ District banners on West 7th St., pursued by JC Main Street, use the JC Arts Council’s logo colors to showcase the partnership between our two organizations!
