The Old West Comes To Main Street Market
Howdy, Folks!
We hope you had an opportunity to experience Take Me Out To The Ball Game at last week’s Market. This Saturday, bring your inner yee-haw and come experience the Old West at Main Street Market on Saturday, June 24. We have a great lineup of vendors and community groups that are here to show you what the Old Midwest was all about.
This week, our two non-profit organizations are The Geary County Historical Society and Old Abilene Town. The Geary County Historical Society has been preserving the history of Geary County since 1977 and the Museum hosts a library and archive of items that date to the Civil War. Ask them about their walking tours of downtown to learn more about the history of Junction City’s Downtown District. Our Old Abilene Town is a non-profit that comes out of Abilene, Kansas. They bring the history of the Old West to life with a variety of Wild West Shows, Cowboy Camps, guided tours, and more. Old Abilene town is bringing its variety shows to us with Can-Can Girls and Gunfighters performing right inside the Market. We invite you to come to see a little piece of Kansas History right here at the Market and learn more about their organization and how you can get involved.
Junction City Rodeo Association (JCRA) will be at the Market, as well. Please note, there was a slight change in location, and they will be situated directly in the Market area and NOT across from Godfrey’s Shooting Range. Authentic cowboys and cowgirls will be offering lasso and roping activities that you and your children can participate in. They will also have an opportunity to ride the Bucking Dummy. Junction City Rodeo Queen 2022, Shelby Christman, and two queen contestants for the upcoming 2023 rodeo, Kaitlyn Watkins and Emma Evarista, will also be present for opportunities to talk and take photos. The Junction City Rodeo is set for July 14 and 15, 2023. Tickets can be purchased at the JCRA booth this Saturday.
We have a little taste of the Old West coming to the Market with Lazy T Ranch bringing a chuckwagon and serving up BBQ for purchase. Come enjoy their rib-eye steak sandwiches, butterfly pork sandwiches, sides, and hand pies. Lazy T Ranch’s own Ron Wilson, Cowboy Poet Lariat, will be entertaining us with his poetry. After lunch, look for dessert from our many vendors.
The JC Arts Council will be returning to sell art kits and share about opportunities they offer for the whole family. Welcome back!
Junk in the Trunk is set for this weekend and will be located just right across 8th Street between Firestone and Central National Bank. Maybe you can find some treasures. Junk in the Trunk runs the same time as the Market from 8:30-1:30 and only occurs on the 4th Saturday of each month.
So… you better get to boot scootin’ down to the Market this weekend! See you there, pardner!
